Improving the Student Experience with zyBooks

Researchers at DeVry University recently studied the effectiveness of interactive zyBooks in an introductory programming course. They published their findings at the 2023 IEEE World Engineering Education Conference

They wanted to find out if zyBooks could overcome challenges they saw with traditional textbooks, like students not reading them, the content being outdated, and high cost. In the study, the DeVry researchers redesigned a beginner’s Python programming course to incorporate zyBooks. Students learned basic programming skills and developed a data analytics project with the platform.

So how did zyBooks stack up against traditional textbooks?

“The utilization of zyBooks as a modernized source of knowledge resulted in increased achievement of student outcomes and increased student satisfaction with the learning methodology.”

Gina Cooper and William Shane Sullivan, Devry University

According to the researchers, “the utilization of zyBooks as a modernized source of knowledge resulted in increased achievement of student outcomes and increased student satisfaction with the learning methodology.” We couldn’t agree more.
