FAQs

AI Hints in zyLabs

Can I turn on AI Hints Globally throughout my book?

A: At this time, no. Our initial feedback indicated instructors wanted to control this at a lab-by-lab level. However we are always considering changes.

Can students write a prompt to interact with the built in AI feature?

A: Students cannot write their own prompt to ask the AI questions at this time. We are continuing to experiment with best interactions between AI and students.

AI Lab Creator

Can I create group work with this?

A: Yes, zyLabs allows you to create group projects. You can even prompt the AI tool to create tasks for each member of the group in a project.

Is this a feature that you anticipate students needing training on how to use it or is it simple enough that they can figure it out themselves? If the former, do you have student focused tutorials?

A:  We have seen it is pretty intuitive for students. They do need to be shown it first but they will use it as needed after that. We tested the feature for a year with cohorts of students at partner schools.

AI Multiple Choice Question Creator in zyBooks Assessments

Is the Generate with AI: multiple choice question feature only usable for section or chapter level assessments or can I use the tool for a midterm test?

A: The in-book assessments system and the new Generate with AI: MCQ feature are flexible enough to use for section or chapter level quizzes or midterms and finals that span across multiple chapters. You can create assessment sections within your existing chapters in your TOC or use Configure zyBook mode to create a new chapter to host your midterm or final.

Is there a way we can import an image for reference when creating an AI generated exam question?

A:  We currently only support text prompts for creating AI generated exam questions, not images. You can use the other content creation tools within Assessments to create your own questions that include images, if desired.

Is the Generate with AI: multiple choice question feature context sensitive? Meaning, if the loop section of Java programming is selected as a relevant section, I do not need to include this in the prompt?

A:  That’s correct. The tool is context sensitive, and will use content in the sections you’ve selected as relevant to generate relevant questions. You do not need to explicitly state relevant sections in the prompt.

If we have problems creating a lab using AI later, could I know whom we could reach out to?

A:  Our support team will be happy to help. If it is complex, they route the questions quickly to a subject matter expert in order to get you the help you need. Just email support@zybooks.com.

Can AI generated quizzes be exported to then import into our LMS?

A:  Not at this time

AI Content in Computer Science and Data Science

In my data science zyBooks, it has the AI content at the AI chapter but does not have these new content yet. Could I know when I could see this generative AI included?

A: The new content will be available in your evaluation zyBook (you may be prompted to update if you have one in your library). You’ll see the new content when you next update your zyBook (next semester subscription).

Are there any labs related to the content that is being presented (data science and AI programming material)?

A:  The AI chapter in Data Science Foundations includes challenge activities, and a few examples in the Python version. We don’t have any labs in the Data Science chapter at this time.

Are there plans for a book forcust on AI tools in Data Science?

A:  Stay tuned… more coming soon on data science and AI 😉

What is the process of creating a new zyBook using existing titles?

A:  We can’t build a custom evaluation copy, so we suggest you get access to all titles you might need to evaluate first. Once you adopt you can indicate which is your primary book, and then which titles you may want to add. Finally, there is a notes field, where you can indicate which chapters form other books you wish to include. Feel free to reach out to your rep if you need help.
