We spend a significant portion of our lives at work. For some, work is just a necessary evil to pay for life’s pleasures. For others, work is a passion and part of one’s complete lifestyle. In this post, staff at zyBooks respond to the question “Why do you work at zyBooks?”

There are numerous studies and statistics that look at why so many students leave engineering programs or college altogether. The struggle is real, and something I’ve faced myself. While developing approachable and effective content is just one facet of helping students towards earning a college degree, I’m proud to be part of a company whose mission is to help students be successful towards a goal that has the potential to make such a significant impact in an individual’s life.

I truly enjoy doing product research for zyBooks. I learn something new every day, and get to interact with professors and have a glimpse into their world. They are so engaged in their students’ success and I am lucky to be the one who gets to hear first hand what their challenges and motivations are. I believe that in doing thorough research in the early product development stage, we ensure that our learning materials are student focused and provide a positive learning AND teaching experience.

New technologies offer tools that if deployed correctly can substantially impact student success. Problem solving disciplines and activity-based disciplines are uniquely suited to take advantage of these technologies. I love being in a work environment where passionate people are looking to transform a market. It’s even better when research-based solutions are already deployed and proving to improve outcomes. I’m fortunate to be able to build teams that get to tell the zyBooks story. It’s a great story to tell and when we’re successful we know a student is going to benefit.

There is a tidal force in K-12 and higher education demanding that institutions meet the expanding needs of an increasingly competitive STEM-based workforce. By serving students with technologically advanced yet agile and responsive learning materials, zyBooks is equipping students with the best possible tools available today to meet that demand. To work at the forefront on this movement is both daunting and exciting for me.

“When I first joined zyBooks, I did not know what to expect. I instantly fell in love with everything that we do here, the company as a whole, and especially the great people I get to work with everyday. It is very exciting to come into work everyday because everyday is different. I am very happy to have found zyBooks and to be a part of this great family.”

What about you? We’d love to hear why you do the work you do. And, please stay tuned for more zyBooks staff stories in the coming weeks!
